Piazza della Vittoria
Piazzetta Vittoria is a breath of open space among the alleys of the old town, a few steps from the harbour cove that has written two thousand years of history.
On the heart of the peninsula
The corner sits on the natural peninsula on which Brindisi grew, the one the Romans called Brundisium, embraced by the sea on three sides. Over the centuries the quarter has watched legionaries depart for the East, along with crusaders, Arab, Venetian and Genoese merchants, all drawn by the safest harbour in the southern Adriatic.
A knot in the urban fabric
The little square opens suddenly out of the tight medieval weave: in the port cities of the south, small squares like this were nodes of rest and exchange, where the logic of the alley gave way to a moment of gathering. The local limestone, white and warm, turns to old gold at sunset and tells of buildings layered between the late medieval period and the 18th century.
